If any, few people have played a role greater than Saint Sava in the formation of the most vital institution of the Serbs, the Orthodox Church. The Church in Serbia received its autocephaly from the Ecumenical Patriarch 800 hundred years ago. Its first Archbishop was Saint Sava, who spent many years of his life at the Monastery of Hilandar, Mount Athos, Greece.
